for your entertainment

i went to see this movie last night at aperture.  it's kind of a funny story- definitely.  in a realistic, spot-on, non-clichéd kind of way.  two thumbs up.  plus, it's got zach galifianakis, emma roberts, lauren graham, jim gaffigan ... yeah.  go see it.

this song has become a staple of the school-morning routine.  "my song!  put it loud?"  yes, we listen to it almost daily, i mean, sing it at the top of our lungs.  this morning, twice.  who needs coffee when you've got celine?

laughter is the best medicine

this book of "seriously misguided facts-according to school kids" has proven to be quite the antidote to a long day's work.
some quotes for you:

"a skeleton is a man with his inside out and his outside off."

"a spinster is a bachelor's wife."

"a polygon is a dead parrot."

"a polygon with seven sides is called a hooligan."

"the masculine of vixen is vicar."

"celibacy is the crime a priest commits when he marries."

"they gave william iv a lovely funeral.  it took six men to carry the beer."

"john the baptist was a centaur which means he was half a man and half a horse.  it says his head was on a charger."

"an injection is a shout or scream raised by a person too surprised or frightened to make a sentence with his thoughts.  it is not quite a human language.  the lower animals say nothing else but injections.  accordingly ill-natured and cross people by their injections come very near to beasts."

"figurative language is when you mean a rooster and say a chandelier."

20 questions

i'm thinking of an animal.
is it a dog?
no.
is it a cat?
yes-  it's a kind of cat.
is it a cheetah?
no.
[pause]
is it a stray cat?

valentines day

i'm having a little trouble believing it's already the middle of month.
the snowy weekends and busy days have caused the past few weeks to blur.
time flies whether you're paying attention or not.
and, here we are.
happy valentine's day!

"martha lookin king"*

today was a great day: no school + sunshine and 60-degree weather is perfect for sleeping in, dressing up, having a dance party, and playing in the park.
it makes me ready for spring/summer.  i could get used to this.
*martin luther king, unintentionally mispronounced

welcome to the future

I just figured out I could blog from my PHONE.
I know, I know, I've been living in the 19th century.
And, let's face it, I kinda like it there.
But the recent cold spell makes me exceedingly grateful for central heating.

moonlight and mistletoe

last night, c and i ordered in pizza and watched made-for-tv hallmark movies, including Moonlight and Mistletoe.  the main characters were desperate to save their home, aka Santaville, where its Christmas all year long.  obvi, the movie made a lasting impression.

10:06 AM
c: i bought our tickets for Santaville, we're leaving in 2 hours. Make sure to bring $8,000 to buy a hand craftsman nutcracker. Oh and also make sure your breath is fresh, you never know if you might get a kiss in the moonlight under the mistletoe ; )
me: i. can't. wait.  can we please ride in a one-horse open sleigh out to the covered bridge?  and we don't want to miss the tree lighting ceremony!

if you give a mouse a cookie

last night, i brush my teeth, turn off the light, hop in bed.
that's when i realize, i haven't taken my malaria pill for the week.  (this would be the med that helps me not get malaria, as i recently vacationed in a third world country.)
and since i don't want to get malaria, i get out of bed, take the pill with some water from the bathroom sink, get back in bed.
and then i start worrying about taking the pill on an empty stomach (mom); plus, it feels like it's sticking in my throat.
so, i get back out of bed, head for the kitchen, get a glass of water.
and i see my blueberries, sitting in the colander by the sink.
so i put them in the refrigerator.
and THAT's when i find my roommate's leftover-from-dinner pan of delicious brownies.
total. life. score.
i even brushed my teeth a second time before heading back to bed.

never say never again

i've always thought of myself as the kind of person who "doesn't win things."  (maybe that's because i'm also the kind of person who doesn't enter contests.)
that status has officially changed.

thank you, instyle.  this calls for a manicure!

what not to wear

i think it's safe to say that my outfit from yesterday takes "casual friday" to a whole new level.  fleece + nike shorts + duck shoes?  sometimes it pays to have my job.

btw, the weather was 60 degrees and sunny.
i'm sure you were wondering.
